Mandala - “Class Clown”

Illinois-based rapper, Mandala, released a new single, “Class Clown” on Friday, December 17th.  He is well known for incorporating a religious theme to his music.  It’s actually pretty rare to hear of religious rappers, so Mandala is definitely making his mark on the independent music scene as somewhat of a trailblazer.

Mandala went into some background information about his latest single, “Class Clown,” on a recent post from his Instagram page:

I’m here to clean up the mess your fathers made.

I’m a product of a society whose moral foundation has rotten due to the lack of strong fathers. When there’s a gaping hole in the culture for a disciplinarian and fatherly figure to impose norms and good moral practices, reckless and unhinged nutcases like myself rise to influence and start turning over tables. That’s how this works.

The wrath of God is about to unleash itself through me. I’m about to speak truth to power in a way the world has never seen. And I can do that because I’m the “class clown”. Why? Because I’m a rapper. I’m disarming to those in power, but Lord knows how much of a weapon my talent is.

Let me put it another way. In medieval times, the jester could speak truths to the king that no one else could. Why? Because the king wasn’t threatened by him. And who could be threatened by a rapper? Well, we’re about to see…

Mandala continues to fearlessly speak openly about topics that may seem a bit controversial on his latest track, “Class Clown.”  In this day and age, so many people don’t want to step on people’s toes and talk about things that may upset others (especially religion), but Mandala has no problem speaking his mind.  While this type of style may not be everyone’s cup of tea musically, I commend him for laying it all out there and not being afraid of what people may think of his lyrics.  He continues to stir the pot and produce thought-provoking lyrics on every song he releases.
