Single Girl, Married Girl - “So She Runs”

One of my goals when creating Music Meds By Mel was to not only help promote indie musicians by showcasing their amazing talents, but to also create a small community of musicians and fans of music.  When reaching out to the recently reviewed, Angela Sheik, to share her review on the site, she told me if I needed any suggestions of other artists to feature, to let her know.  Obviously, I was all ears!  One of the many artists she mentioned was Single Girl, Married Girl, a pop/folk/Americana band out of LA.  When I listened to their 2021 album, Three Generations of Leaving, I was hooked.

“So She Runs” is one of the highlights from this album.  Three Generations of Leaving is a compilation of songs focusing on the lives of three generations of women.  “So She Runs” tells the story of a woman running from the life she’s living to try and find something better.

“On the search for something better

Little Susie’s gone and set her heart on what she lacks”

“Running from the shattered pieces of her broken pride

Running ‘cause her heavy heart has been opened wide

Running to the grass that’s greener on the other side”

Singer/songwriter Chelsey Coy and backing vocalist Shannon Söderlund’s vocals live in perfect harmony throughout the entire track. The strings invoke an additional beauty and emotion to those lovely harmonies.

Single Girl, Married Girl has a storytelling style which embodies the heart and soul of a true Americana song.  “So She Runs” entices the listener to dive deeper into the Three Generations of Leaving album to learn more about the story of these women.  It will also have listeners begging Single Girl, Married Girl to write a sequel to the song and maybe even a short movie or music video to go along with this haunting track.
