Jana Kramer - “Voices”

I first discovered Jana Kramer when she played a role in the later seasons of One Tree Hill.  Fans of the show went through a love/hate relationship with her since she caused a lot of drama.  After OTH, she was a contestant on Dancing with the Stars.  She just had her first child, Jolie, and was in the middle of a separation with her then husband.  I became a fan of hers and followed her journey on her Instagram account.  Fast forward five years and Jana has been through a lot and all in the tabloids, of course.

You may wonder why I’m showcasing her on my little ol’ website for independent music.  Well, she has just released a new song (oh yeah, through all of this, she’s also a country/pop singer/songwriter) called “Voices” and I found out she did this independently.  When I heard that, I just had to review the song for Music Meds By Mel because this song embodies the vision of this site.  “Voices” is proof of how much music can heal the soul.

“Voices” is about fighting the voices in your head that tell you you’re not enough and doubt yourself.  In the beginning of the song, Kramer sings about those negative thoughts, but by the end of the song, she says she’s done with the voices in her head.  She declares that she’s beautiful, strong and worthy.  Kramer takes the listener on the emotional journey that many people go through on a day to day basis.  While recording “Voices,” Kramer was experiencing these voices as the news of her divorce was fresh on her mind and heart.  Many months later, while I’m sure she’s still battling those voices, she has also come a long way since the days of recording this track.

Jana Kramer’s “Voices” has the potential of being the next popular anthem that millions of people put on repeat.  She continues to be open with her fans and leaves her vulnerability out on the table.  Kramer has the ability to convey the pain, suffering, and triumphs beautifully throughout the entire song.
